Rapid Plasma Deposition (RPD) &Titanium at FMB2024
Odd Terje Lium, VP of Engineering & ETC Site Leader at Norsk Titanium, and Hittech Bihca Managing Director Koen Mentink will present the collaboration between the two companies in machining Rapid Plasma Deposition (RPD) 3-D printed titanium pre- forms.
The RPD process delivers 3-D-printed components with strength equivalent to traditional forgings. It enables clean, fast, and sustainable manufacturing and allows us to reduce raw materials and energy significantly.
Koen Mentink: “We have five companies in three countries within the Hittech Group delivering over 600.000 machining hours annually. For one of our products, we had to machine a solid block of grade-5 titanium, of which up to 90% was wasted. After switching to using an RPD-printed pre-form, we reduced the waste by 70%. Moreover, we reduced our machining time and tool usage significantly. This innovative cooperation is a huge step towards our goals in reducing waste while also reducing costs for our customers.” The talk will be on Wednesday, November 6, from 14:30 to 15:00.
On Thursday, November 7, from 14:00 to 14:30, Hittech Group CCO Ralph Stassen will present the latest innovations of nine companies within the group in Hall 21. Ralph Stassen: “During my talk, I will elaborate on how we use a sharply defined market focus to remain best-in-class in our niche and use the interesting dynamics of nine self-regulating companies to maintain agility and flexibility while leveraging the group structure.”
The Tradeshow is held in East Westphalia-Lippe. The region is home to one of Germany’s strongest clusters of mechanical engineering companies. Since 2005, FMB has been organising the trade show, which provides a platform for key players from mechanical engineering, automation technology, and production engineering to network and establish new contacts. The show will be held from 5 to 7 November. A link to register is in the comments.
