A director with a technical background and a strong drive for improvements. That is Arjan Wijnberg, the new managing director of Hittech Landes, the defence and aerospace specialists within the Hittech Group.
You began on the first of May. Have you already identified areas for improvement?
Arjan Wijnberg: “In the defence and aerospace sectors, everything must meet the highest standards while remaining competitive, which requires a delicate balance. Before joining Hittech Landes, I worked with several companies where this was the same issue but in a different setting. This is a process I have started at Hittech Landes as well, but come on, I have only just begun.”
What do you think is the most effective way for a managing director to get a grip on a process?
Arjan: “I am a strong believer in management by walking around. You can often find me on our machining and assembly floor. Within Hittech Group, we offer something unique: a 24/7 robotised production line. This requires a different way of working regarding the preparation of engineering, work, and planning.”
Do you view improvement as a quest for perfection?
Arjan Wijnberg: “No, as a technician, I know that most engineers are only satisfied when a product or part is 100% perfect, sometimes even better than requested. As a manager, I understand that it is not always what the client requests. Sometimes, you end up having a discussion, but the goal is to improve the product for both the customer and for us.”
