InnovationQuarter and Hi Delta launched Qust, an initiative aimed at connecting the semiconductor equipment and quantum computing sectors in the Netherlands’ coastal region. They organised a workshop to meet and discuss education, production capabilities, and needs.Β
Pieter Kappelhof, Director of Technology at Hittech Group, led a workshop on the production of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Pieter: “The semiconductor industry urgently needs production training at a higher professional education (HBO) level, bridging production as well as quality and process knowledge.”
“In the assembly process, the first two steps βorder picking and handling β can be performed by staff with vocational qualifications. However, the subsequent steps, such as assembly itself and testing, require specialists with higher vocational qualifications. Professionals with production experience, as well as knowledge of quality and in-depth process understanding, are necessary. Additionally, that training is not yet available.”
“It also seemed that sharing knowledge between the device sector and the quantum industry regarding the production of complex high-level assemblies could greatly benefit the emerging quantum sector, which frequently employs complex cryogenic applications.”
Our thanks go to Jacqueline Schardijn, Senior Business Developer at InnovationQuarter, for organising the workshop. InnovationQuarter is the regional economic development agency for the Provincie Zuid-Holland, also known as the greater RotterdamβHague area.
