This is Ne-Yo Feijen, our candidate for the Dutch CNC-Milling Championships, preparing for the finals with his supervisor, Marco Elzing, Production Manager at Hittech Landes. Last December, Ne-Yo, a CNC Operator student at DCTerra, reached the last eight in the national qualification rounds and competed in the finals on 19 and 20 March in Den Bosch.
Ne-Yo: ‘During the competition, I have to produce two workpieces. I first have three hours and fifteen minutes to programme them, and then another three hours and fifteen minutes to mill them on the machine. Thanks to my work at Hittech Landes, I have gained a lot of experience in both programming and milling, which really helps me.’
Marco Elzing has been teaching young talent for three years at Bedrijfsvakschool Techniek Drenthe, which is located within DC-Terra, and he enjoys combining this with his role as manager of the Hittech Landes CNC milling team.
Marco: ‘Although there is quite a difference in the level of machining at the college and what we do at Hittech Landes, my focus remains on the same skills: multitasking, thinking ahead, and the ability to switch smoothly and quickly from one task to another.’
Ne-Yo is ready to represent Hittech Group at Skills The Finals at World Skills Netherlands. Ne-Yo: ‘My family will be there to support me, and although Den Bosch is not close to my college or the company, rumours suggest that some colleagues will be there to cheer me on. That’s all I need!’
About the event: WorldSkills Netherlands is a foundation that has been promoting craftsmanship and vocational education among young people since 2002. It supports young people in discovering and developing their skills in collaboration with the education sector and the business community, for example, by organising professional competitions for VMBO students (Skills Talents) and MBO students (Skills Heroes).
