Total Cost of Ownership in 2026

“Balance is the key to total cost of ownership.” Over five posts, our specialists share trends and developments for 2026. This week, Sybille Holl, Head of Strategic Contact at Hittech Prontor GmbH, explains the most effective way to meet her demanding clients’ shifting needs.

Sybille: “At Hittech Prontor, we have a tradition of combining locally machined and assembled products for our clients in MedTech and Semicon with our network of high-quality suppliers worldwide. For the past few decades, low-cost countries have been the holy grail for many companies seeking to manage production costs. But a change has come since events such as COVID-19, the Suez Canal blockage, and recent geopolitical tensions: clients want to keep risks low while maintaining high quality at optimal costs. Our focus is on finding the right balance among these three factors.”

Is it no longer about local-for-local versus low-cost countries?

Sybille Holl: “It is more complex than that. You see, we have very demanding clients, for good reason. They recognise the advantages of local production, such as culture, language, time zones, and travel time, but ultimately expect us to be responsible for the total cost of ownership, with high quality, full liability, and a resilient supply chain, while maintaining maximum flexibility. We base our excellence on close cooperation within the Hittech Group itself and our global network of external suppliers.”

What does this mean for your customers?

Sybille: “They profit from our approach to maintain a stable supply chain while optimising cost over the products’ life cycle. For example, we can start NPI and production in our German and Dutch companies and later transfer the product to other manufacturing locations. I see this as the next step in product life cycle management based on total cost of ownership and our differentiator in the market.”
